Lead Sentences

People who feel chronically stressed on the job may face an increased risk of depression, a large study suggests.

This is a summary lead. I liked it because stress on the job is something I know all to well. Maybe not chronic stress, but stressed enough.

YouTube: George Carlin: education and the owners of America

Comedians, have the best job in the world. They can say things that most of use only dream of saying or would only say in the comfort of our own homes. Comedians are able to do so by deliver their messages in a non-threating arena. There are many important aspects to this clip. Most of us walk around in our own little world not aware of the problems that surround use. When we become aware of the problems, they do not apply to us. We go about our lives with blinders on, only focused on what we know; work, home, family. Most of use are afraid of what we do not know trapped inside our limited minds. Unable to grasp that we are part of the problem. We need to become part of the solution. How we do this, through education, education opens doors that most of us never even dreamed we would see let alone open. By remaining uneducated, we feed the problem. We help pass laws that lower education test scores in our schools. We help pass laws that take our social security way. By remaining uneducated, we are slowly helping the rich become richer and helping the poor remain poor. If we would just stop for a second and remember that we are a nation ran by the people for the people. This is important because we all have a responsibility to our nations, to our families and to our self. The only way things will become better is through change. Change comes from educating ones self. By reading a book or taking a class, we will be able to make informed decisions. These decisions can range from voting to selecting the best insurance coverage for our families. Education is the answer to most of the world’s problems; we just need to remove the blinders.

The online trap

Online Education

In today’s fast paced world, we barely have enough time for our family let alone higher education. With the advances of technology we can have it all the family, career and education. Online courses have enabled people seeking education the ability to take courses with out the burden of going to class. This has made attending school much more convenient but just has difficult. The type of skills need for online classes differ form those need to attend in-class courses.
The skills needed for online classes are similar but very different the in-class courses. As with both in-class and correspondence courses a person must have several skills. Discipline, in-class you must have the discipline to attend class and complete the assigned assignments, with online classes you must have discipline to not only sign on to the class but complete the assigned assignments all the while fighting the urge to wait until tomorrow. Time management, in-class you must manage your time by a being on time for your classes, and meeting assignment due dates. With online classes your time management skills only apply to you completing the assignments by the due date. Procrastination is the final skill that you need for both in-class and online courses. But I feel with online classes the potential for procrastination increases because you are not in a learning environment in your home. You must ensure that you have the proper work space for in a class room environment that situation already exists.
In conclusion, with the advances of today’s technology pursuing a higher education is becoming more convenient. But the skills needed to succeed while attending in-class or online courses are the same. While attending in-class course you need discipline, Time management, and do not procrastinate. While attending online classes you need the same skill but the challenge is to not let your environment influence your discipline, time management, and cause you to procrastinate.
